In who's eyes?
In my eyes. And the writers of the bible. Or else they would have explicitly stated that they meant something completely different from what they wrote. You seem to say yourself that not all sins are the same. And I don't believe in stoning. Or hurting anyone. Or judging anyone for things out of their control. Or using ancient, outdated texts as justification for this. Socrates states that Homosexuality is in many ways a good thing. Why not base our views on him? Were the Greeks and Romans (founders of Western thought) all sinners for homosexuality being so widespread in their cultures? Why does homosexuality exist in the animal kingdom? Bonobos, for instance, have homosexual relations. Why would god create such creatures? There are so many questions one could ask about this. Finally, why would god have any reason to dislike homosexuals? It is obvious why he doesn't like killing -- it hurts people and societies. But why would he dislike something that doesn't hurt anyone at all? There's absolutely no reason for it. Maybe he did destroy sodom because they were gay. But how is being gay intrinsically bad? Homosexuals have contributed so much to our society. Should we simply deny Aristotle? Or Alexander the Great? Or any of the countless millions who have hidden their homosexuality so as to avoid being harassed? Where would we be without them? Where would we be if god had destroyed them for being who they are? Tell me one reason why it is wrong that doesn't relate to the bible, and maybe then there would be some justification. Any reference to it degrading morality is a moot point in that these moral views are based on the bible. Basically, I don't believe god thinks that it's wrong. There is no reason for him to. Finally, were it not for the bible and Christianity, would you think it's wrong? If you grew up in a vacuum where no one ever mentioned anything about homosexuality one way or the other, in your heart, would you think that homosexuality is wrong and that such people should be changed or punished? And if so, why?
