ArchivedThe Quran - Is pre-ordained sin mans responsibility?Peace Everyone Lady Fatima, this statement from the Qur'an is probably the reason why you don't understand what it is I am saying. This Surah makes it seem that we Christians sanctify ourselves, and yet it could not be furthur from the truth. If anything, my understanding of Islam shows that that is more true of Islam than it will ever be of Christianity. Why? Because the very need for a God/Saviour that exists in Christianity declares in very specific terms that mankind cannot under any circumstances sanctify or make themselves right before God. In fact, it's the ultimate submission to God to throw yourself so completely under his mercy as believers do. Without God's mercy there is no hope of salvation. Islam teaches a very different path to forgiveness, a path that is just slightly yours to choose your destiny. You say that man asks for forgiveness and that free will enables him to choose to become a slave to Allah. You teach that your good deeds might just be enough to cancel out your bad deeds. Yes, you still declare that it is Allah who has the right to decide whether it is good enough, but ultimately it is partially you who can choose your destiny. Even the so called suicide bombers I'm led to believe are looking forward to their promised paradise as a reward for their actions (and please everyone, this is not meant to start a discussion in this thread, it's a comment that is non judgemental but based on my understanding of jihad, forgive me muslims if it is not quite correct). There is no forgiveness of sin for a Christian without the grace and mercy of God. There is no ability to sanctify oneself.. God himself imparts and creates a new spirit with in the believer and it is only when this new creation takes place in my spirit that I can have hope of salvation and sanctifaction. My salvation begins and ends with God totally. |
