Christian/Muslim ThreadsQuestions directed to both Muslims & Christians..Hello Elsa, Elsa, that doesn't surprise me at all. The difficulty in explaining the concept of the Triune Godhead (which is the fancy name for God, who is at once Father, Son and Holy Spirit) has led to many trying to come up with examples that lead most people to think of three Gods or three separate persons. You are NOT alone in that situation. I can understand fully, why and how our Muslim friends think of us as worshipping three separate "Beings" when we talk of Father AND Son and Holy Spirit. We often talk of them as if they are separate. Yet, as you are discovering, in a sense they are separate, yet if you keep in mind that they each have a function .. a place in the One God then even if you don't fully understand this, you can at least make sense of some other things, including your other questions. Elsa, if you can think of God the Father as your Creator, you will begin to understand why He was willing to come in the flesh and dwell amongst us as Jesus. .. God the Son. You will then be able to accept more easily, why God the Holy Spirit comes to live with in you when you accept that God the Son died for your sins at the wish and in the plan of God the Father. In accepting Jesus as God, what you are doing, is not exchanging the truth you already know. You are adding to it. May I show you what I mean? There is a story in Acts 19 which tells how Paul travelled to Ephesus, and there he found some disciples and asked them "did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed." They answered that they hadn't even realised there was a Holy Spirit. Paul found out that their faith was based on the baptism that John had given.. that is a call to repent from their sins and the fact that John had told them that they should believe in the One who was to come after him. Immediately, on hearing about Jesus and the Holy Spirit, these God fearing Jews immediately were baptised in the Name of the Lord Jesus and they received the Holy Spirit. You see Elsa, you responded to the truth as you knew it. You knew there was something special about Jesus and you responded to Him as much as you possibly could with the amount of knowledge you had at the time. Now you have been shown fully about God.. that He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each "part" of Him has a function and you are responding to that. The wonderful Jesus you know and love now, is no different to the Jesus who is God. He became a man so you could know Him intimately .. to show you the Father.. to show you God, in a way you could fully understand. Just be like the Ephesians and accept the fact that you only had partial knowledge of Jesus before, now you have more knowledge. He hasn't changed.. You have just had the privilige to get to know Him better. Just rest in the wonderful knowledge, that the Jesus who died on the cross, who gave His life for you, could do it ONLY because He IS God. .. and let the full implications of that set in... you can KNOW you are accepted by God because God Himself took the consequences for your sin. A mere man, could never do that. Now you have more questions, but I'm going to stop here, so you can answer this part of my post and answer, and I'll move onto your questions immediately I send this post God bless Elsa and may you find the Prince of Peace brings you the peace you are searching for. He can.. He is the source of all Peace. Carol |
