ArchivedDisagree that Homosexuality is a Sin!
Pulling one verse out of the Bible does not prove a point, it must be taken in context. God Himself ordered the defiling of the Temple for a specific reason, which is explained in the full text. As to the Law, it was given only to the Jews to set them apart from the gentile world. God chose the Hebrew nation to be holy and distinct from other nations since they were given the blessing of receiving His perfect Word and from them would come the Messiah. The Law does not apply to us today, however, it contains information about the character and nature of God that helps us understand His perfect will. You mention Sodom, yet ignored the Biblical explanation for the destruction of that city and her sisters which is found in Ezekiel 16: A Biblical study of the Canaanite religions will show that Genesis 19:5 probably refers to phallic worship and homosexual rape. Although I will agree this verse is not a proof text that homosexual activity is a sin, this does not invalidate the truth of Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, etc. Again, this is taken out of context to prove an invalid point. Yes, we are taught to love our neighbor, and that includes gay men and lesbian women, however, it does not invalidate the principals of the Law. Finish Christ’s teaching: In other words the Law and the Prophets establishes love as the supreme law; love does not replace the Law and the Prophets. Also, the word translated “love” is “agapao” not “phileo” or “eros” so it indicates God’s love for mankind, not mankind’s invalid use of this word for his own purposes. Christ equates obedience to Him as the proof of our love for Him (John 14:15, 14:23-24. 15:10 ). What are His words and commandments? The Bible! Jesus is our Creator (Colossians 1) as well as our Savior and the Bible is His expressed, inerrant, and revealed word. As James (1:19) warns us simple belief is insufficient. Belief must be backed by a faith that produces a holy and moral life of overcoming sin (Rev 21:7-8 ) or it is useless. As to judging others, I will let the Bible speak on that issue: As Christians we have the right and the obligation to judge the actions of those who call themselves “Christians” yet practice unholy lives. Those outside are God’s responsibility and we should preach and live the gospel not judge them. |
