when john the baptist saw the pharisees and sadduccees on the bank waiting to be baptised he said
you nest of vipers, who warned you about the coming wrath?
well this suggests not only that he wasn't pleased they were taking a step in the right direction but that baptism alone would do at least some good for them.
he goes on to say
i will baptise you in the water of repentance. but one follows who is stronger than i and he will baptise you with the holy spirit and in fire.
does this mean repentance is not enough... or that some of these men were predestined for the pit even before jesus? or does it refer to the second judgement at the end of the world? why was john so nasty to them. did he want to let them know that they would have to more than be baptised? surely he was happy they were baptised?
Starjade says: Did you know that John the Baptist was acclaimed as being born of a virgin birth as Jesus was. mary and Elisebeth were both claimed to have gotten pregnant the same way whilst at the house of Zacharias. Personally i reckon ole Zach nobbed Mary and Lizzie. But either way that John concieved then was claimed to be John the Baptist.
