ArchivedSpeaking false tongues?Hello Alpha Thanks for allowing me to to speak on this subject. Omega started this by asking...what is speaking in tongues and isn't there supposed to be an interpreter according to Paul?...and...he saw many churches speaking in tougues without the interpreter. First, speaking in tongues is someone speaking in a language not understood by the speaker. It is possible, for it has happened, that another person of another nationality does understand. Second, to use the scripture Aineo selected, speaking in tongues according to Paul in Chpt. 14 vs 2 one speaks unto God not unto men. People present will not understand him but nevertheless this man is in the spirit realm and is speaking mysteries. As Paul alluded to in vs. 1 he says in vs.3 But he that prophesieth speaks to men (those who naturally speak and understand the same language)...and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, to build up, encourage, and to comfort. Vs. 4 He who is speaking in tongues is building up the spirit man...but he that prophesieth builds up the entire congreation. Right here we see that Paul was dealing with those who had the attention of the whole church by their speaking or propohesying (sometimes jumping up in the middle of the service stopping what was going on at the time). Vs. 5 He wanted them all to speak with tongues but his choice between tongues and prophesying was clearly for prophesying......because you are addressing the entire congregation and everyone is looking at you. It is of vital importance that what you say to the congregation be clear or there's no point speaking to them at all. If I, the listener, don't understand your speech we both might as well be barbarians to each other (people who operate without rules of engagement, without order and decency to create communication) vs. 11. Paul says speaking in tongues is my spirit praying (and that's good) but the natural man's understandig doesn't benefit from it (unfruitful) so that I cannot produce out that which is spirit into a world that is natural. In Summary: (this is to get you to think that I'm about done) hehehehe Paul said in vs. 18 that he thanked God he spoke in tongues more than them all. But how did he know this? Because many if not most were popping up (often at the same time) seeking attention or demanding attention to show they were spiritual (now a lot of them were sincere)...but it was without consideration of others, so it was selfish. So how did Paul know he spoke in tongues more than they: well, they were only speaking in tongues while at church. Paul spoke in tongues at church AND when not in church. There is a jubilant praise where one is speaking in tongues in a glorious manner usually a praise service or when a strong move of God is felt within the congreation. But when you are standing before all, having the attention of all, addressing all...you either interpret your tongues or speak in a manner that all understnd you... including yourself...that you might teach others. But it gets worse (vs.26). Paul says... how come when all of you come to Church...everybody has song from God to sing or thought from God to teach or jumping up motivated to speak in tongues for everybody or needing to tell everybody that God has given you a revelation or you have an additional interpretation to someone else's tongues maybe spoken earlier. Now, here it is interesting how Paul instructs them. He doesn't tear them down (remember: everything is to be done to edify). Paul teaches them order to benefit themselves and visitors. Let just two or three at most do this in any one service he says and wait for each other to finish instead of interupting (show some restraint and respect for another) and when you're finish let one interpret. If no interpretation then you who were spreaking in tonguers be quiet and continue on with the service. You can keep talking to God, though, but speak in a quiet way so as to not be disruptive because what's happening to you is good...for you. The same with prophets (those who tell forth or forth(future) telling. Two or three is enough...AND if anything is revealed to another that will benefit all ...yield the floor to them. vs.30. Everybody can prophesy one by one for learning and be consoled. Somebody might say "well I can't be quiet. I can't help it, I've gotta keep talking." VS. 32...Paul is saying every prophet, every inspired speaker in the congreation has control of their spirit. Your spirit is subject to YOU. Tell youself to sit down to demonstrate unity and peace so building up can take place. Vs.33...God doesn't start confusion...you do. Now the next verses I'll give you my take on it if you request it only..... I may be different. Jump to vs. 39-40...Paul says... do not forbid anyone to speak in tongues because Paul knew the value of it...but please he says...LUST earnestly to prophesy. But by all means.....let everything (and he does mean everything) be done in decency and in order for the benefit of all. Now this will require teaching and patience......so all churches will need Pastors to bring this to pass. It's not left to the congreation or the board... All of your responses were sincere, noted, and well received by me...I hope this addition was helpful as well as yours. Thank you DMP |
