Wow...Aineo...you covered a lot of area. Makes one think harder. Great response. Having made friends with Nick and Twohumble I'm learning to think methodically.. and carry continuity of the subject matter. These guys are relentless...
I understand what you are saying, I think, but I personally do not see the name Jesus as reducing the Father, S or HG seeing that the Son's name is Jesus. And it would seem only fitting that his Father would have the same name when Jesus said I have manifested thy name (meaning the Father). And the H. Spirit would come in my (Jesus) name. The Trinity would carry this theme as continuing the idea of unity...these three are one. The family name...of heaven and earth.
My opinion is... that God uses language to help us understand Him but is never confined by language. The use of the word Father, to me, would have to have great significance. The use of the word Son and Holy Spirit must mean something essentially significant for God to use it.
So we have the responsibility of hungering for the answers that only God can deliver by revelation of His word.
So one wonders in his heart...what does Father mean that we are to comprehend it?
What does Son mean then?
To know and understand this would bring great insight and resolve to the use of the terms. I have an opinion on it...maybe later.
But as you said and I agree...Jesus commanded them to teach and baptize in Matthew... in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (whatever that name is). In Luke we gather more information of the same event. There it's recorded that it behooved (was necessary as binding) Christ to suffer (death) and rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name
(and it said where) beginning at Jerusalem (whatever that name is).
And at Jerusalem we hear the first message. Peter preached Jesus... for them to have faith in Him and told them to be baptized in that name (for the remission or forgiveness of sins). Philip preaches Jesus and baptizes the Eunuch in the 8th Chapter of Acts after the Eunuch says stop, here is much water...what does hinder me from being baptized? Philip said if you believe... really believe (what I've told you)...you may. And the Eunuch answered and said...I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Faith)...and Philip baptized him. Mark gives an account as well saying he that believes (has faith) and is baptized shall be saved. Now saved means delivered. What did the baptism of their faith deliver them from? When Paul makes his conversion in Acts 22 he is told to hurry up and be baptized...washing away thy sins, calling on the name...of the Lord.
Acts gives as a witness in Acts 4 as well when it says there is no other name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved (delivered). This came after the lame man was healed by the power of Jesus name according to Peter. And we are saved (delivered) by grace through faith. In Acts 3:16 Peter said... And His name (Jesus) through faith in His name has made this man strong.
I contend that the name of Jesus is crucial in all savings (deliverances). At least that is my perspective of how the scriptures flow.
As to this statement:
God's covenant name cannot be verbalized, which is why God is referred to as Lord, Father, or a multitude of other names that describe His attributes and character.
You'll have to help me here...I don't understand Aineo to make any comment.
Also this statement:
If you are going to use the "My Name" as the correct way to baptize then the correct name is Joshua, not Jesus since Jesus is the Greek equivalent to His Hebrew name Joshua.
You have to be careful here because if you use Father, Son and Holy Spirit also as names...they're not in Hebrew either. For example Father would be Abba in Aramaic or Hebrew I forget which.
Yours in Christ
