ArchivedJesus birthThere are some that suggests that Matthew gives a list of those standing in the legal line of descent of King David, those who were heirs to the throne, from generation to generation. Luke gives the actual descendants of David who were ancestors in Joseph's branch of the Davidic line. Luke gives Jesus' ancestry through the forbearers of Mary. Lukes concern is to demonstrate that Jesus is a Son of bothe David and Abraham. More importantly is that Luke is tracing Jesus' lineage back to Adam and God, making two different points. Firstly Jesus had an ancient place in the human race, and secondly being God's anointed, Jesus had significance for all humanity and not just for the people of Israel. God Bless! |
