"If it's not broke, don't fix it" should be applied to this situation. If the family is happy and healthy, and if it knows the Lord, then the parents should not resort to this foolish tactic. The same can be said about families that aren't blessed with health, happiness, and spiritual stability. If they feel that something's wrong, they shouldn't pull a stunt like this. They should examine the reasons behind that problem, then turn to God and seek His forgiveness and guidance.
Too many times, humans have placed their trust in other humans, hoping that other people will fix their problems. We need to go back to the solution that was used in Biblical times: trusting in the Lord with all our hearts and asking Him for help.
