Christian/Muslim ThreadsThe Koran proves that the Bible is not changedFirstly, by I'll like to express my interpretation of the word "abrogate". What I understand from it is that Allah does not say anything in 'contradiction' with what He has revealed earlier. For example, if Allah, in the previous Scriptures, says that you should not take alcohol, then in the Scriptures to follow, He will never say that you should take alcohol. That would be abrogation. But He could supercede his previous words by saying that 'you should not take anything that intoxicates your mind'. This statement is not in contradiction with the earlier, but only more detailed and a better substitution.
Where does the Quran say that? The Quran says Surah 2, verse 79: "Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say: "This is from Allah" to traffic with it for a miserable price! Woe to them for what their hands do write and for the gain they make thereby. " In explanation of this verse, Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 9.461 says: "Ibn 'Abbas said, "Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Quran) which has been revealed to Allah's Apostle is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you!" This Hadith clarifies that: 1. We should refer to the newest and latest revelation of Allah. 2. The Quran is pure, undistorted and unchanged. 3. The Jews and Christians changed their scripture, and distorted it So you can't say that according to Islam, we should follow the Bible. According to the Quran and the Sahih Hadith, we should follow the Quran. As I explained, no. Muslims should read the previous revelations not for guidance, but to discuss them with the Jews and the Christians, to be able to reason with them and to invite them to Islam. Lets follow this Hadith rightaway. What will the Christians say? They'll surely refer to their Bible. I'll quote the Bible here. It is mentioned in the book of Isaiah chapter 29 verse 12: "And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned." And we read Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 1.3: "...The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read..." Allah tells Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) to check the Bible if he is in doubt about his own Prophethood. And even today, we see that it is prophesied there. Further, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is mentioned by name in the Song of Solomon chapter 5 verse 16: "Hikko Mamittakim we kullo Muhammadim Zehdoodeh wa Zehraee Bayna Jerusalem." "His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem." In the Hebrew language im is added for respect. Similarely im is added after the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to make it Muhammadim. In English translation they have even translated the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as "altogether lovely", but in the Old Testament in Hebrew, the name of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is yet present. And I read the Book of the People of the Book, i.e. Jews and Christians, and it says: 2Tim3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God The Quran does not "abrogate" the Injeel. The Quran is only a better substitution of the Injeel. I guess you understood me wrong. I said the Quran gives us God's complete Message, while the original Injeel contained only some portion of it. The Hadith I have mentioned above explains this verse. As for the Quran being for the Muslims only and the Bible for Jews and Christians, it is not true since at various places the Quran says that the Quran is to be followed. And even in the Hadith I quoted the same has been said. But the Quran does say: "Those who believe (in the Qur'an) and those who follow the Jewish (Scriptures) and the Christians and the Sabians and who believe in Allah and the last day and work righteousness shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve." (2:62) So if even Christians believe in Allah as the One God and join not partners with Him, and believe in the Day of Judgment, and do righteous deeds, even they will have their reward with Allah. If you believe that Allah is One God, and that there is no other God, even as mentioned in the Bible, and follow the other points mentioned above, you will have your reward with Allah. Take care |
