This whole thing about conversion is actually a bit misleading.
Muslims tend to proclaim quite publically and in the medias about people who supposedly have become Muslims. In addition to this they wonder why Christians are unable to point to similar numbers of converts.
Thirdly, there is the assumption that converts to Christianity are always poor and uneducated.
In answering these assumptions above, let me first say, that Christianity is gaining a lot of converts daily. Statistics state about 70.000 pr day, possibly more. Many of these are Muslims, basically world-wide.
We do not boast about Muslims become Christians in the same way as we boast about Chinese or Hindues becoming followers of Jesus. The reason is not that Muslims are unwelcome. The reason is mainly that of protecting our new brothers and sisters.
As missionaries we have had a hard time seing any particular growth among the Muslims on a overall aspect due to the killing of these converts.
Thus the approach has been much more secret the last couple of years.
Today, we have a strong break through of Muslims becoming Christians.
In one particular country I heard about one Christian denomination having grown up to 400.000 or so, all ex-Muslims, and educated. In another example I heard about 20.000 converting in one town in a couple of years. A third example reveals, that in a highly conservative Islamic nation 10.000 Muslims have become Christian over the last 5 years or so.
All these statistics are true, I am leaving out the rubbish ones. These are the ones myself as a missionary get a hold on through my work.
Muslims in Africa in particular deplore the fact that Christianity gains so many converts also among the Muslim community. A highly exaggerated number from the Muslim community itself, states that 5 million African Muslims become Christian every year.
This of course may be exaggerated, however, it reveals that something is happening, and Muslims have begun to consider the path of Christianity as the only way to God.
