I personally know about 50 ex-gay men and women who never bothered with secular counseling to make the change. I am one of the thousands who fall into this category. My persoanl email counseling has resulted in many men and women changing their sexual orientation.
I have read all the critiques of Dr. Spitzer's announcement and I have also read where he said his results were preliminary and further studies were needed. Both APA's and the AMA refuse to join in any real peer-reviewed studies.
As to research into a gay gene I will rely on professional journals and scientific websites not personal opinions posted on an AOL personal page.
Have you read Chandler's book "A Second Creation"? He interviewed geneticists who agreed with his thesis that homosexuality is genetic, however none of his "experts" could back up their "opinions" with data and his book is nothing more than a self-serving attempt to show what science has yet to prove.
Limiting any research universe to gay men is bad science. This is why Hamer's study was rejected by his peers. What these DNA studies fail to take into account is personality, which does have a genetic componant.

Environment, biology, and personality are known to contribute to the developement of a gay orientation. I have already linked to sites that can confirm this but you seem to have simply rejected them because they contradict your bias.
As to Cameron and his homophobic attitude, I have absolutely no use for the Family Research Institute. He is not representative of knowledgable Christians who know anything about the development of homosexual desires.
I came out in the 1960's and if you think you have it bad as a gay man now you should have lived in my era. I fought for gay rights and still believe that gays are do as much love, respect, and justice as any other human being on this planet.
If the Family Research Council is really concerned about the American Family they would be just as vocal about divorce and other heterosexual issues that have contributed to the moral decay of our society.
However, since you claim a faith in Christ you need to decide if the Bible is your guide or if science and attempting to justify a sin is your goal.
