Science, Creation & EvolutionCains loverI found a little text here that is amusing AND has a bibical reference itn it. I think this might help to make my next point: The text in bold is not very specific. It bases it's example on 'centuries' of inbreeding. (Probably less than a millennium.) On your latest text Aineo, you said that there were 8 people from the Ark that populated the Earth. These were Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives. [Genesis 6: 1 - 18] This would mean that inbreeding would have happened really soon! (The children of Noah's sons would all be nephews and nieces of each other.) Let's say, for argument's sake, that you are right and that the world could be re-populated within 4000 years. Can you imagine how many generations of inbreeding would have followed?! The quote suggests that less than a century of inbreeding, with a relatively large amount of genetic diversity to begin with (families from all over Europe) would lead to madness and mental problems within centuries. Perhaps an even more disturbing note: All heritary genetic malfunctions must have been present within Naoh's family, or the wives they brought! If they did not carry the 'alleles' [One member of a pair or series of genes that occupy a specific position on a specific chromosome - www.dictionary.com] that cause all the possible (including deadly) diseases, than how did they enter our gene pool? (Noah might have had a pure soul, he must have been a walking medical nightmare!) There is no problem here of course, because you have to have TWO alleles in the same gene to actually suffer from the disease. Noah could have carried 1 of each allele and never catch a cold. There are even conditions in which TWO of the same alleles proof to INCREASE resistance against certain diseases, which pleads FOR inbreeding. In most cases however, inbreeding leads to still-born babies (did you include that in the calculation of how long it would take to re-populate the world?) Now a bit more a tricky question: Did AIDS exist in the time of Noah, or did that disease evolve (or otherwise came into the world) later on? |
