I do believe the author was wrong in his claim that natural selection is circular reasoning. It is not. It happens. We can see it. It simply does not do what evolution wants it to do. Circular reason is 'survival of the fittest.' Who are the fittest? Those that survive? Who survives? The fittest. That is circular. There is no outside reference point. However that is not the same as "It takes nuclear fusion to produce nuclear fusion." That is a statement, true or false, of cause and effect, which can be tested. "Survival of the fittest" cannot be tested because, by definition, if you did not survive you were not fit, and if you were not fit, you did not survive. There is no way out of that one. You can get out of the nuclear fusion bit, however, by showing that it can be produced in some other way, for instance. It is potentially disprovable. That means it is not circular. Just a logic thing there for you... |
