Homosexual Discussion ForumJESUSLAND (hate crimes in America--when will it end?)On My Way... That is OK. It's natural in discussion such as these to assume that our stance is being attacked. What the poster was trying to imply is that there is a lot of negative stigma towards gays, in the same way as there is towards blacks and fat people. Yes, this is a fact of life, but we should seek to root out intolerance, where ever it lies. Well, he wasn't insulting a poster on this forum, so it was a bit unfair to attack him personally. While I think that his statement was a bit extreme, it is true that Bush is not helping the gay community to be accepted by the public. By disallowing gay marriages, Bush is conveying to the community that it is an us vs. them situation. The truth is that gays are just like us, and should not be discriminated against. A president should promote tolerance. It is a trait of a person, and homosexuals want to convey to the public that it is a trait that they aren't ashamed of. When a homosexual proudly states "I am gay!" they are showing that they are not ashamed of their sexual orientation. Just like a negro saying proudly "I am black", as he is not ashamed of his heritage. 'Straightness' is one of your traits, and in part, it does define part of your personality. And it is not something you should be ashamed of. And nobody should have the right to make you feel second class because of your straightness. |
