Science, Creation & EvolutionMorality and evolutionismFirst of all: Darwin was just a man, and not a god. The discovery of genetics actually CONFIRMED what Darwin had written about species B evolving from species A. We can for example see that both chimpanzees and humans carry so called 'pseudo-genes' (useless screw ups in our genetic makeup) that have no function, but just sit there, without being affected by natural selection. The chimps and humans have the same pseudo genes, which suggests that the common ancestor of chimps and man carried these speudo genes before it split itself up the group that would evolve into chimpanzees and the group that would evolve into humans. ---- You think humans became 'good people' because Moses laid down the law? How about the bats I mentioned. Do they have a moses to lay down the law for them? Nope, it's all nature. Even in total anarchy we will form groups and share the spoils with our social group (usually family). Mutual altruism does happen 'automatically.' Moses did not have to look at nature, it is an inherent instinct of social animals. ------ We know that dinosaurs lived in packs because huge fields of similar bones were uncovered. The Coelophysis for example is known to lay eggs in huge groups and were social animals. (They are also known for cannabalistic behaviour, but that's beside the point and probably not their main source of food). --------- I'd be happy to, but first, which 10 Commandments do you mean? There seems to be a bit of a mix up what rules Moses brought down. (O yeah, and he smashed the first set in anger. Good move, Mose!) I assume you don't mean the catholic and the Hebrew Commandments (which can be found, along with the Protestant Commandments here: http://www.positiveatheism.org/crt/whichcom.htm What about freedom of religion? Guess the good book doesn't really believe in democracy. (I would prefer freedom FROM religion) The muslims take this one very literally. Their art consists only of mozaïcs, floral designs and calligraphy. We would have to destroy any picture of jesus, god, all animal pictures. We should even abandon tv, photography etc etc. All because god is jealous, and doesn't like it when we are distracted by false idols... Freedom of speech? Shall we close the hospitals too on sunday? God forbid that anyone would perform life saving surgery on sunday! Makes sense to honour my parents. I don't need religion to this however. Even cultures that are untouched by christianity honour their parents, so it's not a typically bible thing. Makes sense. Too bad you live in a country that in some states murders convincted criminals.(Bush signed several death sentences in Texas - which is in the bible-belt if I'm not mistaking) And murdering someone in self-defense should be allowed as well I think. hehe, stop me Makes sense to me. Makes sense. Well, as long as you don't act on the urge, I don't see the problem. I don't think people should be held accountable for their THOUGHTS. Just their actions. Source: King James Bible, issued by the American Bible Society. ---------- Not a guy? But it is a He, right? He can do anything, except destroy evil and give his creation good lives. As you see, I am not at all impressed by his omnipotence (or should I call it 'impotence'?) Destroying all but 8 people seems more like removing the entire body and growing a new human from the single remaining toe. A small surgical procedure on god's side would have probably spared the earlier, biblical people a lot of pain. He can do anything he wants, right? Could he not have clicked his fingers and remove evilness from the sinners, instead of killing millions of innocent children, babies, pregnant women and animals in the drowning process? |
