Child Molestation is a Sin!what right does anybody have to call it a sinI"m not. I'm saying to you since you believe in God, that this WOULD be the only logical conclusion based on common sense and reason combined with the vast majority of medical opinion. Which is why I don't believe that homosexuality IS a sin. I think this was something identified as sinful by the Jews themselves for the simple reason that anything anti-procreation was bad. They wanted people to be multiplying as much as possible so they could populate the world. Since there are many logical errors to be found in the Bible, if you do hold to the idea that the inspiration behind it's words are divine, than there must have been a combination of things mucking up the works. Personal prejudices of priests and prophets, simple mistranslation, or even just errors period. I cannot hold the Bible up to the light of reason and declare it inerrant. No one can. If you think you can truly dismantle all of the rebuttals of very in depth sites like the one example I posted earlier, than by all means do so. They made a thorough analysis of every line and identified what is known to be true by science, what is contradictory, what is reprehensible, and far far more. So I have no choice but to conclude that many parts of scripture that are not supported by today's FAR better understanding of the world and the way it works, is going to have to concede "truth" to what is demonstrably a better answer. I've read many books myself on both sides of the issue, but this is an appeal to authority. It wouldn't matter if you were a psychiatrist, medical doctor and Catholic Cardinal all rolled into one. You could still be wrong about any statement you put forward. The statement itself has to be rebutted by explanation, not by saying I'm more an expert than you and therefore would know better. I described in detail the very good reasons as to why I personally know I was born the way I am, and at the same time was trotting out a few specific examples that many other people trumpet as so-called "causes" of homosexuality. I'm speaking to you in a sense in a lot of these points, but it's a public board and I'm also speaking generally to others who might read and respond. I'm not accusing you of believing certain things until you say so. I personally don't even care about the "gay gene" theory. It really doesn't matter to me if they can find a specific physical marker. Since I believe it's perfectly natural and therefore neutral in and of itself, I don't need some kind of "justification" for being who I am. It shouldn't to any Christian either, because they still go first and foremost by the premise that if the Bible said it was bad, it is. Period. So they would still make an argument of some description. Probably something like the example of Jesus saying neither the man or his parents sinned but he was having the works of God manifest in him. That's suitably vague enough to be an argument for them I'm sure. As to the changing orientation thing, maybe it IS possible for a select few people. I don't know. MY guess would be they are simply more in the middle on the Kinsey scale. But to my mind, it's completely unnecessary and far more likely to be perniciously harmful. That in itself makes the whole thing wrong to me. I think religion would be far better served by admitting that Biblical inerrancy is a myth and therefore be willing to accept that some things are just wrong for whatever reason. Especially when the best evidence says otherwise. But there seem to be a really hard core dislike for homosexuality in the Judaism/Christian/Islam Triumvirate, and I doubt this will happen anytime soon. If ever. |
