It's a shame that somany are deceived into thinking that the Watchtower Society is a Christian church. It is, in fact, doctrinally antithetical to Christianity. A good source book to read regarding Watchtower doctrinal deviations is "Kingdom of the Cults," Walter Martin, usually available at one's local library.
Some of the Watchtower Society's views as compared to Christianity are:
1. The Archangel, Michael, became incarnate in Jesus Christ.
2. God is not omnipresent. He gains information regarding his creation through intermediaries (angels).
3. Jesus Christ's physical body was not resurrected. Instead, his spirit nature was transferred back to heaven, where he is again the Archangel Michael.
4. Only 144,000 since the Crucifixion of Christ are born-again (become spirit creatures in heaven). The rest, the Great Crowd, have no mediator, since only the 144,000 have Jesus as their Mediator. The Great Crowd must be in union with the 144,000 to be "saved" through Armageddon. At the end of the Millenium, the Great Crowd members will be judged by their own moral character. Those who pass the test will be given eternal life.
5. The New World Translation used by the Watchtower Society is not a recognized translation by anyone but the Society. It was translated by a "secret translating committee," and contains many false translations used to support their doctrines (see John 1:1, for example).
6. At death, those who are not part of the 144,000 will be anihilated. They will be "recreated" based on Jehovah's memory, sometime in the future. There is no spirit/soul in man - man is only physical. There is nothing which will link the "recreated" Jehovah's Witness with the dead Jehovah's witness.
Jehovah's Witnesses usually prey on those not familiar with Scripture, and who are not able to defend traditional Christian doctrine. Until a few years ago, they cautioned their membership to avoid higher learning, since Armageddon was just around the corner. As most know, the Society has a very dismal record of false prophecy; for instance, they predicted that in Oct. 1975 Armageddon would begin.
The MacGregor website is a good source for documentation on this cult.
