ArchivedPA officials guilty of blatant violation of First AmendmentI'm continuing the discussion in the Free for alll section, but I'll just answer you on the two things you said Aineo. I don't see a minority opinion. There are arguments between Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, Seven Day Adventists, Mormons, Jehovah Witnessess, etc. etc. That speaks quite clearly that there are MILLIONS of people disagreeing on interpretation in numerous way. I don't see this as a "minority opinion". And no, I'm sure you wouldn't find it in the New Testament, but religous groups have used the Old Testament when it suited their purposes. This obviously doesn't apply to todays Christians necessarily, but it IS part of history. What is "civil disobedience"? Protest against the status quo for equality arguments is par for the course to affect change. The opposite view SHOULD be denied because they have no sensible leg to stand on but personal belief. Pretend their were no Christians in the country at all. What if a group of Wiccans all of a sudden piped up to the government saying they believe that homosexuality is forbidden by their belief. So laws should be altered to satisfy their creed? One that no one else knows about, has any belief in, and indeed cannot even see any logical reason for the forbiddeness other than a tree god said once he didn't like it? There is really no difference between the example I gave and people who subscribe to the Christian faith. We can't verify yours either. This is why there are laws passed to SEPARATE religion and state, so there is no intermingling with belief systems and humanistic morals decided by society. |
