Science, Creation & Evolutionproblems with datingI can't disagree with you so much about science. Unlike you, I trust in no absolute source of truth. To me, scientific authorities are the best source of truth humanity has, but there ain't no denying that they are wrong much too often. It must feel good to have a source of truth that you are unquestionably sure is right all the time. Do you ever have doubts about the Bible? If you do, what do you do to resolve them? Does the ambiguity of the Bible ever bother you? For example, Job 37:18 is translated by most English versions as, "Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a molten mirror?" which seems to fit with the ancient Mesopotamian cosmology that the sky is made of solid material ("firmanent"), and it also seems to fit with other verses that indicate doors in the heavens that let water out. But some apologists have used the ambiguous language of the text to morph the verse into, "Can you, with him, spread out clouds, which are strong, as an appearance of being cast?" It seems to me that either the Bible is wrong or so ambiguous that it says whatever anyone wants it to say, thus dodging criticism. Such ambiguity is not so common in modern-day science. |
