ArchivedNIV Version changes day star to morning star!Well, not exactly. The word the KJV translators rendered "God" is actually the Greek noun "Theos." Just a brief look at any Greek text which has a textual apparatus would show that the reading "'os" (not "ho") is found in the vast majority of all Greek manuscripts including a significant number of Alexandrian witnesses, not to mention all of the Byzantine textform. The difference is due to differing underlying texts, not translational errors. Sorry, but once again the difference is due to the underlying text. The KJV translators rightly translated the text they were working from which reads "'Iwshf" which is also the majority reading including much of the Alexandrian textform and all of the Byzantine textform. <Sigh> No, the reading is found in the text which the KJV translators were using. In this case it is a minority reading even among the Byzantine manuscripts but was in the text the KJV translators used. Once again, it is the text they based the translation on, not an error of translation or a translators addition. The majority of all Greek manuscripts read "profhtais." That majority includes many Alexandrian witnesses as well as all of the Byzantine witnesses. Nobody. The differences are due to the differences in the underlying texts, and good and godly men on both sides of the issues have reasons to prefer one textform over the other. No, the didn't. They translated the Greek text they had in their possession. |
