Evidence for ID and creationA or non-AI also would have to agree that creation/evolution is a false dichotomy although neither parties have explained their positions very well. Let me try to show that special creation and evolution are not the only two options. Mike Behe argues that evolution is true up to a point. Organisms evolve and then at some point, when an irreducibly complex feature is necessary BOOM some intelligent designer steps in and creates. So which is this evolution? Not really because the final step requires a creator. Is it creration? No because the organism 'morphed' (what a god-awful term that is) to a degree before the ID'er needed to step in. Behe does not see the ID'er as creating distinct kinds either. Normal evolution works to bring about new organisms. A 4th possible option is that the Universe and the organisms in that Universe always existed. It might not be attractive, but if the argument is that the universe had a beginning then the converse argument (that it always was) must be considered. It may be that what we view as evolution and or special creation is simply the arrival of these beings via some unknown mechanism to earth. In this case, special creation and evolution are nothing more than false readings of the distinct arrival to the planet of different organisms. If that is not to your liking, others have proposed orthogenesis (an intrinsic drive toward perfection) which is neither creation nor evolution. Lamarkism is neither creation nor evolution. So, it truly is a false dichotomy. You have to be careful in stating that because your preference is one or the other, that those are truly the only two options. NN |
