Christian/Muslim ThreadsSura 89....Jesus Resurrection on the 3rd Day...Howdy Apple Pie I think we had this conversation before and there's no point going over old ground, but I will give one example. According to E.W.Lane, AAashrin can mean many different things, but in any given instance it is likely to have one and only one meaning, which should be determined from the context. I do not think it is valid to peruse the whole lexical range and then select a particular definition arbitrarily. So I am curious to know what it is about the context that inclines you to define AAashrin in 89:2 as 'three' rather than 'ten' or 'tenth part' or 'the eighth offspring' or 'a piece broken off from a cooking pot'? Have you heard of something called 'illegitimate totality transfer'? Thanks Apple Pie - I take your point. I know very little about the Koran and I have not even read it all through yet. One of the reasons I participate on this Forum is to learn more. Regrettably my access to a computer is very restricted and I do not have the luxury of being able to research the internet into the background of the Koran. So perhaps you could help me out here and give me some links to the evidence that the writers of the Koran intended to collate and rehash Biblical texts. Many thanks! Phiz |
