My opinion (FWIW)...
I sense some anger or bitterness in Bill's tone, but I don't know why and I don't know him. I love Jesus, yet at times I can be angry or bitter. Man's anger doesn't produce God's righteousness, but all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, even Christians. We have acknowledged we are sinners and need Jesus. It seems as though Bill has done this. We can't judge the heart, only God can do that. We can make assumptions based on works. But, in saying that, I also would like to say that love always believes the best. Love covers a multitude of sins. We need to give each other understanding and loving correction.
Why is he saying that a murderer deserves to go to hell? A murderer does deserve to go to hell. So does a liar, the fearful, fornicators, etc.
You asked him what Jesus would do. How do you think Jesus would deal with him? Do that.
