ArchivedWhen CHILDREN ask about JESUS CHRIST.There are a few posts here that I need to respond to - please bear with me Um...that's because I'm not. I'm a Pagan. I stand corrected Obviously it was late (because I told y'all) and wasn't up to doing research to try to refresh this aged memory Which is one reason why I don't believe in Biblical Prophecy. There have been many predictions of the end of the world, most (at least in recent decades) based on Revelations. Sure, some are garbage, but I know for a fact that there were *millions* of people that felt the year 2000 was going to be the end of the world because Jesus was going to arrive in the new millenium. When it didn't happen, it became 2001 because 2000 wasn't *really* the new millenium because we didn't start counting years at zero. Do you see my point? The Bible is vague enough to meet many criteria, and non-specific enough to confuse the masses. The predictions are no better than Nostradamus, because of the lack of clarity. Here's an example of bogus prediction on my own side of the fence: A friend of mine (an Athiest) called one of those 1-900 numbers for a free "Psychic" reading. This was near the end of March about 9 years ago. He was told by the "Psychic" that he would be coming into money. Did he? Sure - it was tax season, and most people get a return on their taxes. It was a safe "guess" made by the Psychic, not a prediction. Every "prediction" that I've ever read or heard has been "safe", including the Bible. It's a glorified version of "cold reading". How many Christians have lived and died without seeing Revelations come to pass, believing that it would in their lifetime? How many people here, on these boards, believe that Revelations will come to pass before they would normally die naturally? I'm betting that I will be long dead before any Biblical prophecy can be proven as true. I'm not sure about the Alexander thing - I'll have to research it. Note: Things seemed to get a little...tense...for a few posts there. I'm not getting that impression now - it's nice to see that we can talk and admit that we messed up when we do [/quote] |
