ArchivedWhat are your opinions?Lucky, you detailed analysis of Matthew 7:1-3 missed the mark because you over analyzed what Jesus taught. You are appealing to semantics and wrangling over words. How many self-righteous “Christians” judge others for a certain behavior while engaging in the same behavior? What Jesus is teaching is if you are going to judge another person’s behavior the one judging has to first examine himself and get his own life in order. For example how many self-righteous gay bashers engage in or promote adultery? Those in the political religious right who are divorced and remarried are hypocrites when they judge the gay community for sexual sins they are themselves guilty of committing. If you are going to judge the gay community based on Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 then you will be judged based on Leviticus 18:26 and 20:10. John 8:1-11 demonstrates this principle. What did Jesus write in the ground? There are many interpretations given in an attempt to answer this question. Some teach He wrote the sins of the accusers, others teach Jesus wrote the section of the Law that commanded both the adulterer and the adulteress should be stoned. However, the lesson we learn is that the adulteress’ accusers were convicted of their own hypocritical behavior. These are instructions for church discipline where the congregation is to judge human behavior and we are told to expel the wicked from the congregation. Can we as Christians “judge” others? Yes, we can judge behavior, we can judge and discipline our own, but we are not authorized to pass judgment in a judicial sense on any person outside our faith since that authority lies only with God. And your cheap debating tactics qualify you to pass judgment on how others understand God’s truth? |
