1. They believe that Jesus Christ is not God in the flesh, but that He is Michael the archangel. During one of my meetings with Geraldine and Cee, one of them cited 1Thess., which states (according to my NIV), "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." They say that because part of this Scripture reads "with the voice of the archangel", then obviously Jesus Christ is the archangel Michael. But what they don't understand is that (a) there is still no evidence to support their claim and (b) this portion of the Scripture merely means that the archangel will announce Jesus' arrival.
Now, if one wants to be sarcastic, they could point out that (if they were going by the Witnesses' reasoning) since the next sentence reads "and with the trumpet call of God", then Jesus Christ is a trumpet. This idea sounds ridiculous, and I'd imagine the Witnesses would scoff at the very idea. And rightly so.
2. They believe that the Holy Spirit is God's active force, compared to electicity or fire. He is not a person, according to the Witnesses. Yet they have chosen to ignore Scripture evidence that proves that the Holy Spirit is not only a person, but that He is God.
3. They do not believe that Jesus Christ rose physically, but that He rose as an invisible spirit creature. But Scriptures prove that Jesus appeared to over 500 people, all of whom could see Him. Here is a quote from the Watchtower. Remember what Jesus said in Luke 24:39? Doesn't this prove that Jesus Christ had a physical resurrection and that He was NOT an invisible spirit creature?
The reason why the Witnesses believe this false doctrine is because they have misinterpreted 1 Corinthians 15:50, which states that flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom of God. That is true. However, they are missing two vital pieces of information:
a. "Flesh and blood" refers to the current corrupted, sin-filled, weak condition of our humanity. This does not refer to our physical bodies. If Paul had been talking about our physical bodies, he would have used the phrase "flesh and bone".
b. Jesus Christ used the phrase "flesh and bone", not "flesh and blood" in Luke 24:39. This phrase alone proves that He had risen as a physical being, not as an invisible spirit creature.
4. They believe that the 144,000 of Revelation 7 and 14 are members of their leadership, and that it is only the 144,000 (aka the anointed class) who will enter Heaven. They've completely disregarded several Scriptures that prove that all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ will go to Heaven, and that those righteous people who had died before Jesus' time are also in Heaven. The 12 Jewish tribes in Revelation 7 are "spiritual" tribes, not literal tribes, so says the Society. They believe this because:
(a) the tribe of Joseph is listed, and they don't believe that he was a tribe.
(b) Ephraim and Dan have been excluded.
(c) the Levites are included.
However, if they would do some Biblical research (and not rely on whatever their publications say), they would find that Joseph was a tribe; Dan and Ephraim were most likely omitted because of their idolatry (There is another theory that states that the antichrist will come out of Dan); and the Levites are included because their priestly duties have been fulfilled by Jesus Christ, who is our High Priest.
What happens to the rest of the righteous people? According to the Witnesses, those who are not members of anointed class are called the great crowd. They will remain right here, on Paradise Earth. The earth, according to them, will be restored to the original condition it was in before Adam and Eve sinned. They base their statement that the great crowd will remain on earth by their translation of Ps. 37:29. (Their translation of Ps. 37:29 is quite different than all original translations, BTW. Compare the NWT version of this Scripture to a translation such as the KJV or the NIV.)
Take a look at what the NIV translation of 2Peter. 3:10 says. Then compare it with the NWT version.
NIV: But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
NWT: Yet Jehovah's day will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a hissing noise, but the elements being intensely hot will be dissolved, and the earth and the works in it will be discovered.
The land that we will inherit is not the earth, but the New Jerusalem, which will be the everlasting abode of those who have been saved through Jesus Christ. We will not inherit the earth, which is plainly stated in
2Pet. 3:10. But in order to support their false doctrine about the 144,000 and the great crowd, the Jehovah's Witnesses changed the Scripture. But if you would just compare
2Peter 3:10 to
Rev. 21:1 and
Is. 24:1-6, you can see that the Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong.
5. They believe that the Holy Trinity doctrine was created by Satan himself and that the doctrine is not supported by the Bible. Then how do they explain
Genesis 1:26?
6. They ignore the existence of Hell, claiming that this doctrine was created by Satan to make God out to be a cruel God. But what about Biblical evidence that provides evidence of the reality of Hell?
7. They believe that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914, having kicked Satan out of the heavenly realm. During a recent meeting with Geraldine and Cee, Cee tried to get me to believe that Scriptures that indicate that we will see, with our physical eyes, Jesus' return really mean that we will know that He has returned because we'll have signs to go by. The Witnesses have clearly ignored the fact that Jesus Christ's return will signal the end of the Great Tribulation, which hasn't even occurred yet.
Now are you convinced that the Witnesses are not Christian? How much proof do you need before you realize that I'm telling the truth and that the Witnesses are just as lost as Joe Bob who lives down the street?
