ArchivedWhat is the tithe, and is it required today?Yes. I read about that in my studies. When I looked past that point, I couldn't find one instance where the Israelites mimicked Abaham's tithe. For example, Numbers chapter 31 is a place where the Israelites acquired loot, and only 1/500th was given to the priests, and 1/50th to the Levites, neither of which is anywhere near 1/10th. Nowhere else do we see anything that comes even this close, so if what Abraham did was an established principle, then who followed it? If nobody else, including the Lord, never saw that as a principle other should follow, then why is that upheld to day as a principle to follow? Now, granted, we have the freedom to establish principles in our own giving, but to teach it as something OTHERS should be doing is what I have found to be a precarious teaching that rests upon no authoritative foundation I can see. (I'm not saying that you believe this, but there are many who do.) I agree. BTI |
