i really understand what you're trying to do and where you're coming from, but i also truly believe that you've been misled.
alpha, were you to go "back to the OT" as you claim, then there are many other things you should also be warning against, such as wearing certain blends of clothing and other restrictions which NO ONE follows any more. why is that? why do you single out one "abomination" and not adhere to all of the laws listed in leviticus, numbers, etc.? is it not because jesus christ said that he came to complete, or fulfill the law? do we not believe that in christ we are free? we are free from the social, cultural, and yes, religious, restrictions which have bound people.
of course, ultimate freedom implies increased responsibility. and i accept the responsibility to live my life as i understand christ would want me to. as you say, none of us are free from sin and none of us can claim to never do anything which is wrong. however, being gay is not wrong [and i will not go into all the arguments about why that is - you've heard them all before, and i will not change your mind].
you assume that my life is comfortable just because i assert that i am gay. why? you also assume that i am making sexual choices which are contrary to god's will. again, why?
if your [hypothetical] son comes to you and says, "i'm interested/attracted to girls" do you immediately assume that he's sleeping around? if your [hypothetical] daughter says, "i like boys" do you immediately warn her of the dangers of pregnancy and stds and tell her she's sinning by having sex? i would think most normal people would say no. so why do you automatically jump to the conclusion that if someone says "i'm gay" they're sleeping around?
god made me as god made you. we are all different and we all have differing interests, talents, skills, abilities, etc. i may not be the ideal [i think since the fall none of us could claim to be the ideal!] but i still love god and god still loves me. i believe that god has a plan for me and if that includes a partner, that's great - how is that any different than a "straight" person? [in my case, that partner will be a man.] but if i am not meant to be with a loving partner, so be it.
don't sit around condemning and judging gay people based only on your experiences or biases. look to the tree stump in your own eye before you try to remove the splinter from mine.
Let's not use the OT then. You wanna talk about how we're living under grace? Fine! Who first brought it to our attention that we were now under grace? It was Paul(we were always under grace, but Paul made it known). And if it was Paul who let us know that we are under grace, why did he preach AGAINST homosexuality? Because it is a sin against God. Just because we are under grace does not give us the right to sin openly. Homosexuality is discussed in the New Testament also, which shows that you cannot say anything about it being a OT law. It can still be applied today unlike the other laws of the OT like "wearing certain blends of clothing." And the "look to the tree stump in your own eye before you try to remove the splinter from mine" line only applies if I am being a hypocrite. Otherwise none of us would have the right to approach our brothers or sisters and tell them about their sin, because we are all sinners. If I was gay and remained gay but still I am telling you to quit that lifestyle, then that line would be neccesary.
