Science, Creation & EvolutionAge of the EarthAh, you’re right. In the creationist nonuniformitarian universe, cracks in the earth can squirt several earth masses of rock and water into space without the earth itself changing appreciably in mass, the speed of light is constantly decreasing and mud can dry out under water and form cracks. And dinosaurs can walk around under a mile or so of water, sand and mud, lay eggs, defecate and leave their tracks. Thanks for reminding me. It’s all in our assumptions. Of course when someone’s assumptions are just plain crossways of the facts, we may reasonably presume the assumer is either ignorant of the facts or is strongly motivated to deny them. Does that mean if we see a dinosaur footprint where it could not possibly be assuming a global flood, we should abandon our conclusion it disproves the flood hypothesis and conclude instead that God put it there?
In Galileo’s time, the Bible was generally interpreted to mean that the earth stood still while the sun moved around it. That was considered at the time to be His Word. You reject that interpretation don’t you? Can you be sure you have not substituted the false ideas of men? Or have you merely realigned your interpretation of the Bible so that it more closely approximates reality? They know no such thing. Evolution by gene duplication is a well studied phenomenon. So also is evolution by polyploidization. Both forms of evolution allow for increasing complexity. All you are saying here is that you believe the falsehoods of people who provide false witness in the name of Jesus.
1) It is not a false assumption that there IS actually evidence . Would you like to see it? 2) If YOU have not have misunderstood the meaning of Genesis, then Judaism and the religions derived from it are based on a falsehood. What you fail to understand is that if you accept that camels and llamas can have been derived from a common ancestor then you accept that humans and chimpanzees can have been derived from a common ancestor. The type of evolution, cladogenesis, is the same. It is not necessary to demonstrate anagenesis of both chimps and humans from some less complex ancestor. I should point out, incidentally, that your notion of evolution of, say, the greater than 100 species of “chicken-kind” (chickens, pheasant, grouse, turkey, chuckar, quail, peafowl, guinea fowl, etc.) with all their wondrous combinations of wattles, combs, beards, spurs, decorative tails and other adornments in less than 6,000 years requires not merely evolution but superduperpooperwadzooper evolution.
You deny your own interpretations? I have substantial doubt as to the existance of the Christian God. The false witness provided by those who would want you to believe this world is only a few thousand years old does nothing to eliminate that doubt. I believe, however, that if there is a God, then this world is His creation. What we see is the direct result of His Works and the Bible is secondary to it. I am not going to deny His Works when it contradicts Man’s interpretation of His Word. And are you saying a naturalist cannot be Christian. Assuming a God, all a naturalist does is study the nature He created. Studying nature can be fascinating. You should try it sometime. Rev |
