Apologetics Forum: Ask questions about Christianity/Debate doctrinescatholicsAieno Wrote: When the body and the spirit were combined together, the soul of man was produced (Gen. 2:7). I dont see a contradiction on our part. I believe man is a trichotomy, you however maintain that man is a dichotomy, correct? What about First Thessalonians 5:23 or Hebrews 4:12? Is scripture contradicting itself? You still haven't told us what hebrews 4:12 is trying to say, also you seem to have forgotten to explain why there is the word "AND" inbetween the words Spirit and Soul, possible to distinguish between the two? “And may your spirit and soul and body be preserved.” If only two things were referred to here, the verse would not require the conjunction “and” in two places. Since Paul used the conjunction twice, surely there are three things here. Hebrews 4:12 specifies “The word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow" Again, by using the word AND the pasage clearly indicates the soul is explicitly separate from the spirit. Also please do not forget to show us some passages in the bible where the Jews used repetition as some sort of "Hebrew teaching technique". |
