You may very well be right. But let's take a step back. Are you really arguing that "that's the way it's always been" is a good basis for modern law? That the <I>only</I> reason gender equality is valid today is because there are at least a few egalitarian cultures to be found in history? Conversely, if I found an example of a culture in which a marriage-equivalent was equally accessible to both heterosexual and homosexual couples, would that validate homosexual marriage, your eyes? I suspect this is a moot point. Honestly, no. I've argued most of them at length, on other boards. I suppose it was my way of proving to myself that I was right, that I wasn't making a mistake... or if I was, that it was an honest one. It was something I needed to do, at the time... but I have neither the time nor the inclination to do it all again. My point exactly. |
