I've replied now in the Qur'an Bible debate forum on the Word of God as THE Word of God, but I know you want to discuss it too Mr Banks, so here are some thoughts, which I hope answer your questions/discuss your comments in your post.
Alpha:
In John 14:13 Jesus supposedly said...
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son
Either this is TRUE or it is FALSE.
Quite a statement by Jesus isn't it? Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do. notice the purpose "so that the Son may bring glory to the Father."
Now look at the context of this verse. Jesus is telling His Disciples that they will do even greater miracles than what He has done. He is telling them that, they need to believe that He and the Father are one, and that based on the miracles Jesus was doing if no other reason. Then, he tells them, that they will also do the things Jesus Himself has been doing.. how.. it explains in vs 15, which is a verse we have discussed many times in this forum.. through the indwelling Holy Spirit. God Himself, living in believers in the person of the Holy Spirit, will work even greater miracles through them.
To understand that, you can't just read the one verse.. you must read all the passages in chapters 14,15 and 16. You see, they only make sense, and Jesus' words in John 14:13 only make sense, if you accept the paracletos is the Holy Spirit. To read those verses and substitute them with periklytos and therefore as Muhammed, makes the entire text meaningless. Then I would have to agree with your choice of words "Jesus supposedly said".
I'll answer more of your question tomorrow, as I'm keen to hear your response to this first Mr Banks. Hope you don't mind.
