ArchivedQuestions for ChristiansIt will be nice to give the scripture where it says that. But everything in the Bible is not to be taken in a literal sense. When Jesus said to eat his flesh and drink His blood, He was not speaking literally. And neither is the sky being a "solid dome" to be taken literally. Scripture please. Again, things like "solid dome over the sky" is spiritual language and not to be taken literally. 1Corinthians 2:14-"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." Deuteronomy 24:16 is talking from a judgement point of view. You will not be judged by God for the sins of what your family did, but you will be judged on your own sins. That does not mean that you are not going pay a penalty for the sins of your parents. Let's say a child is handicapped because of something a parent did. Eventhough that child paid a penalty for what their parent did, God is still going to judge them according to their actions and not their parent's actions. And the doctrine of original sin is not only in Paul's writings. It's all over the Bible. David says in Psalm 51:1-"Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me." Sin is the nature of man. That's why Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit and not by a man and woman together. Otherwise His nature would be sinful. I believe we've been through this: http://www.jesus-christ-forums.com/home/viewtopic.php?p=11431#11431 Sinners can't save themselves. We need an atonement and that atonement is the blood of Christ. The same way the prophets and people of the OT atoned for their sins by the blood of lambs and the forecoming of Jesus, we are atoned by what happened to Jesus on the cross. And it is not like killing your child for the sins of another child because your child is conceived in sin as King David puts it. Your child, as he or she grows, will be a sinner. The lambs in the OT had to be without blemish in order to be sacrificed. And Jesus was also without sin. It was God's plan from the beginning and the way God wanted to do it. It is not our way. Why would you question God? Let Him atone for our sins the way He wants to. First of all, it is not clear that Moses did not write the book. It is quite possible that he did. If you are going to just toss around statements, can you please support it with some kind of evidence? Now, even if Moses did not write the book, Jesus' statement is still true. He said the Book of Moses, He never said The Book written by Moses. The greater works is not refering to miracles. Again this goes back to understanding spiritual things. Only the natural man would think Jesus meant "miracles." But Jesus is obviosly talking about His followers preaching the gospel to the world and leading souls to repentance, which Jesus refers to a "greater work" because He mainly preached to the Jews. While the Apostles, and people today, are spreading the gospel all over the world. |
