Exodus is very open about "failures". You just need to check their library using the correct search terms. As to what you are looking for Bieber's book contains it, a book you rejected based on a synopsis. As to your peace of mind that is something you need to handle. I find the websites that call the ex-gay movement a fraud upsetting because I know it is not a fraud. But I don't go to those sites and bitch. I registered my own domain, put myself out front to help those seeking help. And that is the key wording: those seeking help. I don't judge gay men or lesbian women for being gay or having those desires, but gay activists label me a liar, a man denying the truth because I am seeking approval from religious bigots I would not walk across the street to listen to.
You find the testimonies uncomfortable because they raise questions about your sexuality; questions you don't want to face or attempt to answer or investigate. The fact you have come to a Christian board defending "gay unions" just shows how much you worry about societal approval for desires you did not choose. But, you are not so sure you can't choose to walk free of them.
Reading recovery stories makes your skin crawl, and reading hateful propaganda from gay activists who are so afraid of the truth they would condemn some who could change to lives of misery and constant searching to protect their own self image makes my skin crawl and my blood boil.
I have read suicides notes from gay teens who suicide, not because of Christian bigotry but because they were abused by gay men who were supposed to be helping them accept their sexuality; teenage boys who suicide because they wanted help overcoming gay desires only to be told and convinced by gay activists that change was impossible so they took the only way they saw open to them. I get boiling mad when people are so self-centered they refuse to consider anyone else in their push for some utopian, egalitarian goal that will build their self esteem and destroy someone else’s.
Being openly gay in the 70’s was far from easy, but we didn’t cry fowl when society called us “queers”, “fags”, “fairy’s”, and gay bashing was a weekend pastime for red necked drunks. We simply lived our lives and fought for equal not special treatment under the law. We did not demand that society redefine society for our agenda, we accepted ourselves for who were and lived our lives. You, on the other hand, want society to bend over backwards and blame heterosexuals for your own lack of self acceptance and self esteem! Gay activist’s claim that society is why gay relationships are historically unstable and short-term, and since society has accepted, even promoted, the gay community gay relationships have remained unstable and short-term. The truth cannot be covered up with laws that mandate acceptance of your lifestyle, that takes personal effort that no law can build or mandate in you or any gay man or lesbian woman. What makes my skin crawl are politicians who will sell their souls for a vote and another term in office.
You may not agree with the founder of HOPE, but I can respect that man for his truthfulness and the fact he is not trying to force some ethereal agenda down the throats of the majority for their personal peace of mind.
I volunteer with gay men whose goal is to change the gay communities self perception and see “civil unions” as a farce being perpetrated on this country by weak willed gay’s who can’t accept themselves for who they are.
I will defend your right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as a lesbian, but I will also defend my moral and Biblical beliefs even if it costs me everything I have including my life.
You want to see studies that show the efficacy or lack thereof concerning reparative therapy for homosexuality then get the arrogant mental health professional organizations to do their job, and leave Exodus and other ministries out of that picture, it is not their responsibility to prove or disprove their religious beliefs to you or the APA. It is up to the APA to prove via scientific studies that their position is anything more than a dictatorial decision made by their executive committee, a decision that 70+% of their membership disagreed with in 1972.
