Me? I'm sitting here irked, because I just wrote a very long post, during which my login apparently timed out. So now it's gone. This is going to be much shorter and more general the second time around, I'm afraid.
First: For those of you who were bullied in school, for whatever reason: I'm sorry. (That's an expression of sympathy, not an apology.)
Second: Since I never attended public school, I may have been mistaken about the prevalence and severity of bullying in general, as compared to the incidents in this particular case.
Third: If, in a given school system, a particular group is being targetted disproportionately to others -- and the teachers are turning a blind eye to it -- I still think it is reasonable to address that problem, specifically, rather than bullying-in-general.
Fourth: I don't actually approve of the cash settlement to the formerly bullied kids. I don't think it helps anything.
If I've ignored anything that anyone thinks I ought to address, please point it out. I just don't have the patience to recreate my original post.
