ArchivedThe Arab Embrace of Nazism ~ Hanjar troopersAlexei wrote:And about Love Your Enemies:
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. [Matthew 5].
Now if I raped your sister, then you will offer me your other sister and be blessed!
And if I kill you mother, then you will offer me your father and be blessed!
And if I stole your home, then you will offer me your brother house and be blessed!
If it is a life threatening situation, then you are allowed to defend yourself. Notice Jesus said if someone smites you on the cheek, to turn the other one. He did not say if someone is going to kill you, then be their doormat. When Christ was about to go to His Father in heaven, he told his desciples to sell what they had and buy swords. This showed that their life was going to be in danger for preaching the gospel and they can defend themselves. But if someone does something that is not life threatening, i.e.- smites you on the cheek, curses you out, etc, then turn the other cheek and exchange evil for good.
