ArchivedThe PassionThe Passion Back on topic here, I can remember wanting to watch every Christmas and Easter the movies about Jesus that was on broadcast TV. We had 3 channels, ABC, CBS, and NBC. Well we did have PBS but who wants to watch that as a teenager? lol The movies at Christmas was about the birth of a baby and the movies at Easter was about the Crucifixion of the same man and very little about the Resurrection afterwards. It was not until much later that I wished all the movies about the Crucifixion ended with Pentecost in the upper room and Peter preaching the Gospel to the masses and thousands was saved. After the day of Pentecost the complete work from the birth was completed and entire world changed. The entire world changed because of the act of Love shown on the cross and by Jesus returning to be within our hearts. Jesus speaks that his death was necessary or the Comforter couldn't come.
That is my biggest beef with all the Crucifixion movies I have seen. They are never enough to get a complete understanding of the Gospel message. As for the Passion I haven't read what the critics are saying about it because these same critics was the ones praising the movie The Last Temptation of Christ. I went to see the movie with our Sunday School Class and I did observer the following: 1) It was Catholic Based toward Mary. Problems with that point. 1a. When Jesus was carrying the cross and couldn't get up and Mary ran up to Him he said "Look mom, I make all things new" and then got the power to get up and carry the cross. Sweet but there was a slight Catholic Bias there. 1b. I have no problem with the Catholic Bias, I could only imagine what the Baptist Bias would have been like? 100X more blood everywhere and OSAS somewhere within the movie I am sure? lol 2) It was not anti-Jewish! But Matthew 27:25 Subtitle was removed from the film. Probably to shutup the critics. Matthew 27:25 Then answered all the people(jews), and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. In 70ad it was so. This is not anti-jewish but a fact and the OT confirms the same concept of the Jews disobeying God and paying the price for it. If the Jewish people can't handle that then they need to find another religion. I do have to admit, I am not the same after seeing this movie. To watch lash after bloody lash tear the skin of somebody I love is something that needs to be seen by the Luke Warm Christians in this country who sit in their little seats once or twice week thinking they are so Holy and haven't told a single person about Jesus in 20 years. It does bring tears to your eyes. I left the movie theater with one thought, But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. As to the Christian critics, remember who you are sinning against here. And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. |
