Firstly a question: Do Catholics drink wine at communion? I think i've read they've only been allowed to do so recently?
Now, why is there so much fuss about Communion and how it should be done. Didn't Jesus sit down at a table for a meal with his friends, and pass real bread and real wine around? Why the obsession, particularly with Catholics it seems, with ostentatious regulations like using wafers so as not to spill a crumb, using grape juice in lieu of wine, or only dispensing Communion to a Protestant if he's in danger of death?
The rite of Communion seems to be the only major thing we as followers of Christ are commanded to do. It's fundamental to the concept of our religion. Why is it so convoluted and regimented?
"I assure you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you"
It's serious stuff. Really serious. And it seems to me the frailties and pedantry of man are in danger of demeaning a sacred act.
