ArchivedGOSPEL OF ST BARNABAS??????? :: Re: GOSPEL OF ST BARNABAS???????Barnabas was a native of Cyprus and of Levite extraction. When Paul made his first appearacne in Jerusalem, Barnabas brought him to the apostles and attested to his sincerity (Acts 9:27). Pseudepigraphal writings such as the Epistle of Barnabas have always been universally rejected by the Church of Jesus Christ and is one of the writings that is sometimes referred to as the "Apocrypha." Many of these writings were accepted by groups of Christians because it was wrongly believed they were written by an apostle or reffered to by as an inspired book (for example, Col.4:16). Once this was known they were rejected as canonical. There is no new Messianic truth in the Apocrypha. Even the Jewish community whose books these were, acknowledged that the prophetic gifts ceased in Israel before the Apocrypha was written. Apocryphal books were never listed in the Jewish Bible with the Prophets or in any other section. |
