The Church (note the capitalization) is the body of Christ or believers. The churches should be working together to accomplish the work of God. But unfortunately you are correct Persecuted. People are more concerned with the order of service and how a pastor delivers his sermon than being a unified body of Christ.
I think it's time for us as Christians to admit that there is a big problem and it is rooted in division. Since most of us are using the same book, praying to the same God, and (supposed to be) being lead by the same Spirit, it makes no sense for us to be so separated.
It's funny how you mentioned this topic because my spirit was just pondering a related topic a few days ago. If we are all paying our tithes to these churches on a regular basis, shouldn't poverty and homelessness be eradicated? Today's church is not operating under God's plan nor is it following the examples set by the early Church:
"And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." Acts 2:44-47
