Christian/Muslim ThreadsHow do Muslims go to heaven???sardab wrote:God_is_love wrote:So, indeed truly believing, in the Biblical sense, means that we are assured of eternal life, but never because we do anything on our own, but that God empowers us to live a new life. Many Muslims I have come in contact with (my best friend is Muslim) hear this idea of simply believing, and they think that Christians use that as an excuse to sin. Perhaps that is true for some Christians. But a true Christian knows that to truly believe means that I give my life over to Jesus, and I let his righteousness transform me.
Fair enough! Thats what one would expect from a religion. But accept it, people thinking like you are rare in your religion. In Christianity there is what you call law, but no moral or legal enforcement at all. It is like a bird with one wing, that it cannot fly.
You are judging almost 2 billions of people based on the actions of a few high profile people who claim to be Christians. Unlike Islam Christianity is not used by governments to control the hearts and minds of men. Romans 12:17-21
17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
NAS
Hebrews 10:26-31
26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge His people." 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NAS
God is the one who judges mankind not governments out to control the world with wars and violence.
To say that violence and bigotry represents all of Christianity would be dangerous, since I can also say that about your history. This is not to slander or to disrespect Islam, but my point is that we should not use arguments that can be turned around. Surely, you will agree that in all religions, there are both good and bad people.
I agree that there might be bad people in every society. But there's a very visible pattern. Muslims are not ashamed of their history, because they do not have shameful history.
Christians on the other hand are trying to detach or alienate themselves from most of their own history: Inquisition, witch hunts, persecution of other religions, crusades etc. Papacy keeps apoligising for what Christians have done in the past. (i do not even count post-renaissance violance and discrimination)
Not all Christians are Catholics and not all Christians should be proud of the excesses of the Catholic Church. But here you are conveniently ignoring the violence perpetrated on Muslims by Muslims who are seeking political control of geographic regions by using suicide bombers, or do you deny there is violence perpetrated by Sunni’s and Shi'a’s against each other? As to persecution of other religions the nations controlled by Islam and other religions are at the forefront of hate and violence aimed at Christians.
