ArchivedWhy was Jesus baptized by John?Indeed, "water can be seen running throughout the pages of Scripture". This is the most edifying post I've read on this forum concerning water baptism. I had started two threads some time ago concerning the issue of water baptism, "FEW WERE SAVED BY WATER" and "CRITICAL IDENTITY OF BAPTISM" in the Christian Debate Forum which tie into what you posted on this thread as far as "significance" of the symbol of water used by God. But keeping to the topic of Jesus's baptism by John "to fulfill all righteousness" I believe you truly expounded precisely what actually occurred in the spirit realm. Although Jesus was fully God He was also fully man (Adam). As a man Jesus submitted Himself to the ministry of John. It was the fulfillment of John's ministry that had to be dealt with before Jesus's ministry could begin. It is true Jesus had no sin to repent of but Adam did. Therefore I believe Jesus was fulfilling the repentance required by His Adam nature before entering into His ministry. It was a separation from living as a man to living as the Christ. The spiritual significance of water baptism has been over-looked by most in Christianity as merely an outward sign and even trivialized. But what you have posted clearly shows that water baptism is truly significant with spiritual consequences. May the Lord richly bless you as you have blessed me. |
