Ok, there's another thread going on but it's in the Christian Debate section and since I'm not a Christian (despite posting in there on accident) I figured it would be better to start a thread here instead.
Don't get annoyed with me just yet, I just have a couple of questions
My first question (which was what I asked in the other thread) is which version of the Bible is going to be closest to the origional scriptures. I would hate to take the time to read it and miss fundamental points or misunderstand because Joe 1000 years ago decided that he didn't like ______ or because he liked ______.
The second questionn - because I think I know how the first question is going to turn out - is why hasn't the Bible been re-translated correctly for the benefit of those who'd actually like to read it in near-origional form? Obviously, there are lingual barriers in the way which will (no matter how hard you try not to) change the meanings (or imply different meanings) than the origional, however it seems to me that someone should be able to come really really close. Why hasn't that happened?
I would think that the text of the Bible should be fairly easy for Christians to agree on. If there is dissent between Christians on which Bible is the most accurate, it's likely that none of them have gotten it right yet.
Ok, sorry for the rant - just a side-note, these questions are not intended to start a flame-war or create problems. I'm genuinely curious (and have been for some time). I respect all of your beliefs and views equally - it's very likely that when I find time and energy to read the Bible I will read KJV because that's what I currently own. Thanks for the tips!
