It is so funny reading about Jesus talking to Satan. It is so funny because Satan is always made out to be so powerful but Jesus seemed to just find him really annoying. In Matthew 4:10 Jesus says "Get thee hence, Satan." It sounds like Jesus was really repulsed by Satan. That sounds like something to be said to an animal.
In verse 9 Satan just sounds so ridiculous because he says "All these things will I give you"- that sounds respectful but then he says- "IF- thou wilt fall down and worship me."- How presumptuous is that?
It's like Satan let it slip- He didn't want to really give Jesus anything.Doesn't Satan know that if you want to win someone over you have to give them things for FREE.
Solomaon said in Proverbs 15:27- "He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live."
If something is a sincere gift given out of purity- like salvation- Proverbs 17:8- "A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth."
I don't think Satan was trying. I think Satan just wanted to talk to Jesus and mess with his head a little. I think Satan just wanted to kindof get to know jesus and get a feel for what He is like and who he is. I don't think there is any way Satan was stupid enough to really think Jesus might take him up on his offer throwing in that IF part. It is like, when he threw in that if part it made everything else he had said of no effect.
I think Satan is jealous of EVERYONE. Proverbs 6:34 says-"For jealousy is the rage of man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance." and 35- "He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts."
I think Satan is jealous because of who he is. I think he was mocking God and trying to relate to Jesus how mad he was. I mean, think about it, God gave Satan the whole world- everything in the world and Satan hates it. Satan seems to use this as his day of vengeance. Satan is jealous because he knows he has nothing inside of him. All Satan wants is a soul- he has the whole world but he has lost his soul. Obviously Satan knew that Jesus wouldn't give up his soul to have what Satan had. Satan didn't even want what he had himself. All that Satan wanted was someone to think something of him.
