Free For all - Open Discussions and DebatesWhy sinners deserve hellNow put Paul in context. He is teaching about the resurrection of the body, not immediate translation to heaven when we die. Also I am well aware that the word translated "hell" in the KV and NKV is Sheol, just as one of the words translated "hell" in the NT is Gehenna, which carries the same meaning as Sheol. The other NT word translated "hell" is Hades, which is translated "grave" in the KV, NKJ, NAS, and NIV in 1st Corinthians 15:55. In the Septuagint the Hebrew translators choose "Hades" to translate "Sheol", which tells us that in the Hebrew mind Hades is also equivalent to Sheol. In other words ever reference to hell in any translation is simply a reference to the grave. Since I have not read Augustine's "Confessions" what you shared is new to me. I came up with that on my own. What I have read and am still reading are the Anti-Nicene writings. Reread 2nd Peter 3:13. I must reject your interpretation of the eternal kingdom based on Scripture, just as I have come to reject the traditional teaching of an immortal soul and eternal torment as the wages of sin. There is no Scripture that teaches mankind has an immortal soul or that the wages of sin is eternal torment in the lake of fire. |
