Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesThe Ark of The CovenantAlpha wrote:I do not have to reject the Trinity to be a non-Trinitarian. I am not fully convinced of the Trinity based on my understanding of scripture, but I'm not foolish enough to base everything on my understanding; so I do not rule out the possiblity of the Trinity. This however does not make me a Trinitarian.
Okay, since you view this thread as dealing with the 10 Commandments, let's look at the first 2. Exodus 20:2-6
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
NAS
Deuteronomy 5:6-10
6'I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
7'You shall have no other gods before Me.
8'You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 9'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. NAS
"I am Yaweh your God" does not leave much room for "we are your God" does it since Yaweh is the Father? Deuteronomy 32:6
6 "Do you thus repay the LORD,
O foolish and unwise people?
Is not He your Father who has bought you?
He has made you and established you.
NAS
Psalms 89:20-26
20 "I have found David My servant;
With My holy oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom My hand will be established;
My arm also will strengthen him.
22 "The enemy will not deceive him,
Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
23 "But I shall crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 "And My faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his horn will be exalted.
25 "I shall also set his hand on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 "He will cry to Me, 'Thou art my Father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation.'
NAS
Isaiah 63:16
16 For Thou art our Father, though Abraham does not know us,
And Israel does not recognize us.
Thou, O LORD, art our Father,
Our Redeemer from of old is Thy name.
NAS
Jeremiah 3:4-5
"Have you not just now called to Me,
'My Father, Thou art the friend of my youth?
5'Will He be angry forever?
Will He be indignant to the end?'
Behold, you have spoken
And have done evil things,
And you have had your way. "
NAS
Jeremiah 3:19
19 "Then I said,
'How I would set you among My sons,
And give you a pleasant land,
The most beautiful inheritance of the nations!'
And I said, 'You shall call Me, My Father,
And not turn away from following Me.'
NAS
Now, who is Jesus? Isaiah 42:1-9
"Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul delights.
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations.
2 "He will not cry out or raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.
3 "A bruised reed He will not break,
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.
4 "He will not be disheartened or crushed,
Until He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law."
5 Thus says God the LORD,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread out the earth and its offspring,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk in it,
6 "I am the LORD, I have called you in righteousness,
I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you,
And I will appoint you as a covenant to the people,
As a light to the nations,
7 To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the dungeon,
And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.
8 "I am the LORD, that is My name;
I will not give My glory to another,
Nor My praise to graven images.
9 "Behold, the former things have come to pass,
Now I declare new things;
Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you."
NAS
Matthew 12:15-21
15 But Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed Him, and He healed them all, 16 and warned them not to make Him known, 17 in order that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, might be fulfilled, saying,
18 "Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen;
My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased;
I will put My Spirit upon Him,
And He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
19 "He will not quarrel, nor cry out;
Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.
20 "A battered reed He will not break off,
And a smoldering wick He will not put out,
Until He leads justice to victory.
21 "And in His name the Gentiles will hope."
NAS
Jesus never said he is God or part of a Godhead. Throughout his ministry he said only that he is the Son of Man and the Son of God. He also said that eternal life is "to know You the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (John 17:3).
