What I Have to Say
Aineo: As to driving a SUV as sin I find this a bit ludicrous. Why should a SUV be more sinfull than a luxury car if you can afford one or any vehicle for that matter?
You go, Aineo!! My parents are the proud owners of a Ford Explorer, which they bought brand new in 1998. It has never given us any major problems, and it has always been good to us.
Crystal: As for SUV's the only sin in them is trying to look around one of the big honkin things, but boy are they nice.
Darn tootin'! LOL
As for being over weight..........
Ecuse me for growing up in the south and seein all kinds of big mama's comming directly to the resterant from church.
And I know for a fact some of these ladies were the sweetest god fearing people around.
Like my mother is constantly telling my superficial, incredibly rude and judgmental grandmother (Trust me. If you knew her, you would agree with me completely): "God looks at what's in a person's heart. He doesn't give a damn about what they look like."
Now you know where I get my brutally honest personality. LOL
Here's the Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia's definition of GLUTTON.
Essentially a voluptuary or a debauchee. In both OT and NT it is connected with drunknenness (Deut 21:20; Prov 23:21). Because our Lord was friendly to and went to the homes of publicans and sinners, He was accused of being a glutton and winebibber (Mt 11:19; Lk 7:33-34).
And here are the Scriptures.
Matthew 11:16-19
"To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
"'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.'
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." But wisdom is proved right by her actions."
N.I.V. BIBLE NOTES
11:17 - 'played the flute.' As at a wedding. 'sang a dirge.' As at a funeral. The latter symbolized the ministry of John, the former that of Jesus. The Jews were like children who refused to respond on either occasion.
11:19 - 'wisdom is proved right by her actions.' Apparently that means God (wisdom) had sent both John and Jesus in specific roles, and that this would be vindicated by the lasting works of both Jesus and John (see Lk 7:35).
Luke 7:31-34
"To what, then, can I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to each other:
"'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not cry.'
For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." But wisdom is proved right by all her children."
N.I.V. BIBLE NOTES
7:32 - 'like children sitting in the marketplace.' People had rejected both John and Jesus, but for different reasons - like children who refuse to play either a joyful game or a mournful one. They would not associate with John when he followed the strictest of rules or with Jesus when he freely associated with all kinds of people.
7:34 - 'a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."' Jesus ate and talked with people who were religious and social outcasts. He even called a tax collector to be an apostle (5:27-32).
