StreetDeacon: How is a movie about Jesus crucifixion bad? How is watching it in a movie different than reading about it in the bible? That's like saying it's only good the read the newspaper, but bad to watch the news. Like I said before, some people need a visual aid.
Exactly. I think some people need to have it driven home. They need to realize just how greatly Jesus suffered for our sake.
That guy in that audio clip talks about an "unwanted reenactment". Well that's his opinion. He says it focuses on the physical pain and not the spiritual pain, or something like that. Well I see both, and even if people see only the physical, at least it might get their minds working, and they will feel guilty. Then they might start reading the bible to get the spiritual aspect of it.
What about the emotional pain Jesus experienced? I haven't watched the movie, but doesn't Gibson explore the emotional pain as well?
God doesn't want to hear the same dribble over and over. In fact, and this is my belief, when you pray, it is between you and God. It's not for the public. In my Bible study, we all go our separate ways to pray / talk to God alone. That's what Jesus did. Anyway, back to the subject. That guy is stating his opinion, and I believe he likes to hear himself talk.
At my church, we pray as a group, and we are sincere while we're praying. I don't think God has a problem with that. He just has a problem with praying for the sake of being seen.
Matthew 6:5
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."
By the way, StreetDeacon, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your brother.
