ArchivedYoure all sickIf you have read any of my posts on this board you will find that I am trying to educate Christians about the truth of sexual orientation, so you are preaching to the choir on this. As to God creating people gay that is open to understanding His reasons for creating man. Since you are not a Christian I would not expect you to accept this. I know the statistics, however, I believe 80% is to high a number. I am researching teen suicides for my website. However, I agree that Christians do not have the right to judge anyone outside our faith. We are told in the Bible only God can judge. There is another problem with laying the blame for gay teen suicides at the door of Christians. The people I had the most problems with as a gay man were drunk redneck teens throwing beer bottles. The Discovery Channel (I believe) did a program on the gay bashing in schools. High school boys were engaged in conversation about why they harrassed gay teens and the major reason given was not religious belief, but fear of the unknown. Ever-straight teenagers feel threatened by gays because they feel that homosexuality is a threat to their own masculinity. Education about the roots of the desires could go a long way to eliminate this type of harrasment. Also, no religion in the world accepts homosexuality, and there are more than Christians in the U.S. and throughout the world. The media gives a lot of attention to Falwell and the political religious right but no attention to the majority of evangelical Christians who teach we should love our gay and lesbian neighbors in accordance with Biblical truth. Love and tolerance do not equate to acceptance of the lifestyle. Christianity and the Bible unlike some other religions (Islam and the Koran) does not teach us to hate people or to label them. Gays label themselves and then make an issue of their orientation without first trying to educate ever-straights about sexual orientation. I personaly abhor the violence perpetrated against any group of people, and laying the blame at the door of all Christians is wrong and not true. I am ex-gay and the false rhetoric put out by the gay media is just as wrong, prejudicial and hateful as some who label themselves Christian (falsely I might add). Until you have read and studied the Bible can you really counter what appears in the media with truth? If you should decide to read the Bible bear in mind that the first 5 books are the Hebrew's constitution and body of law under a theocracy where God is the supreme authority and does not apply to gentile or Jewish Christians today. Read the New Testament with an open mind and you just might learn something. As Christians we have the obligation to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and then let each individual choose to accept or reject this gospel. We do not have the right, authority, or Biblical mandate to force our faith on others. So please study for yourself and stop blaming all Christians for the acts of Phelp's of godhatesfags.com and the political religious right, they don't speak for Christ or all Christians - The Holy Bible is our authority. |
